OUR STORY

Nestled on five acres in south Florida, The Isle of Misfits is home to over 30 animals with complex medical needs.

Owned by Paige Graham and her mother, Lou, the farm has become a safe haven for animals with everything from mobility issues to terminal illnesses. Paige was working as a registered nurse when she began rescuing special needs animals in 2010. Over the next decade Paige accepted rescue transfers and owner surrenders from all over the country. One by one, animals that were previously deemed “unadoptable” found their forever home at The Isle.

In 2022, construction began on a tiny house village to house The Isle’s rescue animals. Today, “Misfit Town” is a three-structured cul-de-sac that houses our cats and dogs. The town is complete with a dog park for the pooches and an enclosed “catio” for our feline friends. You can read more about the tiny house village here.

An unfortunate car accident caused Paige to permanently close The Isle to new intake in late 2022 and dissolve The Isle of Misfits as a nonprofit entity. The current rescue animals at The Isle, will continue to live out their lives on the farm, while new admissions will no longer be accepted. Though the farm no longer accepts new animals and no longer acts a nonprofit sanctuary, Paige’s advocacy work is not finished. In 2023, Paige founded The Misfit Wheels Project (501c3 pending) to provide education, resources, and free adaptive equipment to pets in the Tampa Bay Area.

Through this program, Paige hopes to educate and empower owners of specially-abled pets, so that these animals can remain in their forever homes and out of shelters. You can read more about the Misfit Wheels Project here.
